Time Strategies

Image
When it comes to time management, I believe that I am neither good nor bad at it.     I am always able to finish assignments and tasks in a timely manner, however, I could definitely improve as I tend to procrastinate quite a bit throughout the year.     The articles that I read were 11 Ways Unsuccessful People Mismanage Their Time by Áine Cain and Realistic Study Plans by Amanda Collins which both gave really helpful tips on studying that I will be putting to use.     The most useful tip that I got from both articles was to create a schedule.     When studying or doing assignments, I typically just do the assignments listed on the Canvas calendar and then study when I feel like it.     If I create a schedule where I spend and equal amount of time studying, doing assignments, and also taking breaks, I believe that it will help me learn more as well as decrease stress.     Overall, I will definitely try to implement some of the time management strategies that I learned today and hop

Technology: My Thoughts

Image
When looking at the technology lists for this class, I have only ever used the spell checker and word count tools. I’ve never used Blogger or PBWorks as most classes don't really use those websites.     This type of technology is quite different than what I’m used to as most classes usually only use Canvas and maybe one other site such as GradeScope.     However, this class provides more of a variety of technology that we can use.     Going through this semester using these different types of technology, I hope to learn helpful technology tips that may help me in the future. Assignments: My Thoughts

Image
When reading through all the different assignments, the one that really popped out to me is the storytelling assignments.     I have never done something like that in any of my classes and it seems quite fun based on the storybooks that I read.     The other assignments for this class look similar to other classes and seem quite manageable.     For the extra credit assignments, the tech tips sound like it would be useful and the famous last words also seem helpful in checking to see how you are doing each week.     Overall, these assignments seem pretty interesting and shouldn’t be too difficult to accomplish. Growth Mindset: My Thoughts

Image
I have honestly never heard of Carol Dweck, but I believe I have heard of the growth mindset or at least something very similar to it. I think that it’s really interesting because it is true that when things tend to be easy, you become complacent and want things to always be that way thus you never try anything harder. Then when something more difficult appears where you can’t figure out the solution easily, it makes you give up quicker due to the fact that it makes you feel incapable. Watching these videos and learning about the growth mindset made me wonder where I was on the spectrum. If I think about it, I would most likely be in the middle of the spectrum because while I do like when things are easy, I do not mind more difficult things and accept the challenges that come with them. I am also a firm believer in the fact that everybody can improve no matter how good you think you are at something. Overall, I think that growth mindset is very important to instill when younger a

Introduction to Chris the Computer Science Major

Image
Hi, my name is Chris, and this post will be a little introduction to me. I am currently a junior at OU as a Computer Science major. You may ask why a Computer Science major is taking a class about Mythology and Folklore and the main reason for that is because I have always enjoyed mythology since I was a kid. I enjoyed reading books that were based around mythology, specifically the Percy Jackson series, and enjoyed learning about all sorts of folktales from different cultures as I continued to grow older. I am Vietnamese but I was born in Oklahoma and have lived here all my life. If I’m being honest, Oklahoma is pretty boring as there’s not much to do so I wouldn’t mind moving to another state. As for my hobbies, I only really have one hobby which is playing basketball but in recent times, it has been kind of difficult to keep that hobby going. Therefore, I really want to find a new hobby to replace basketball at least for the time being. I think that learning how to play an i

Storybook Favorites - My Three Favorite Storybooks

Image
First Storybook - My Brothers Grimm: The Diary of the Only Grim Sister (The Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm by Arthur Rackham via Flickr )      The topic of this storybook were the tales of the Brothers Grimm and while I have heard of these stories, I have never read them for myself. With that being the case, I believe that this storybook does a fantastic job of explaining the original story while adding on an interesting twist. For the design of the pages, I thought the black background along with the font of the words really drove in the creepy and whimsical vibe that original stories portray. However, I’m not sure if it was only me, but I found the words somewhat difficult to read. Overall, this storybook did a great job of introducing some of the Brothers Grimm tales while adding on an original concept to the stories. Second Storybook -  The Un-Told Stories of SpongeBob (SpongeBob by Michelle Ress via Flickr )     The stories told in the storybook were based on real storie

Favorite Place: New Orleans

Image
New Orleans had to be one of most interesting places I have visited, although my family and I were there only for a short while.  My favorite area in New Orleans has to be the French Quarter as the ambience of the area was just amazing.  There was music playing almost everywhere as well as street performers creating quite a lively atmosphere. There are also a bunch of historical sites such as the Jackson Square that lets you learn about the history of the area. Not to mention, the food there was just incredible.  If you have a chance, I would definitely check this place out.  Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral by Wally Gobetz via Flickr
